DCMT11T308 UC5115
Cast Iron Heavy-Duty | UC5115 Wear-Resistant CVD | 0.8mm Radius
Engineered for High-Abrasive Cast Environments
UC5115 Grade (The K-Class Champion): The UC5115 is Mitsubishi's premier CVD-coated grade for cast iron turning. Unlike steel grades, UC5115 uses a specialized substrate and a thick, smooth Al2O3 + TiCN coating. This combination resists the abrasive "sandpaper" effect of graphite flakes in gray iron and the mechanical shock found in ductile (nodular) iron.
DCMT Geometry (Stability & Flow): The 55-degree diamond shape provides the structural integrity needed for semi-roughing. This positive geometry reduces the tendency for workpieces to vibrate, which is critical when turning large cast iron housings or engine components.
0.8mm Radius (High Edge Integrity): The "08" (1/32") radius is chosen for its strength. It allows for significantly higher feed rates ($f_n$) and provides better heat dissipation than the 0.4mm version. This makes it the preferred radius for semi-roughing and finishing where the tool must endure long cut times.
Metric vs. Imperial Comparison
| System | Model Designation | I.C. (Inscribed Circle) | Thickness | Radius (RE) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Metric | DCMT11T308 | 9.525 mm | 3.97 mm | 0.80 mm |
| Imperial | DCMT32.52 | 3/8" | 5/32" | 0.0315" (1/32") |
Recommended Cutting Parameters
*UC5115 thrives in stable, high-speed CNC environments. Dry cutting is often preferred for cast iron.
| Workpiece Material | Speed (Vc) | Feed (fn) | Depth (Ap) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gray Cast Iron (FC300) | 180 - 450 m/min | 0.15 - 0.35 mm/r | 0.50 - 3.00 mm |
| Ductile Iron (FCD600) | 120 - 320 m/min | 0.12 - 0.30 mm/r | 0.50 - 2.50 mm |

UC5115 (Iron Specialist): Optimized for heat and abrasion. If you use this on Steel, the lack of "toughness" against chemical welding will cause the insert to crater prematurely.
US735 / UE6110: If you are switching from Cast Iron to Stainless or Carbon Steel, you must switch to these grades. They have the toughness and coating chemistry required for steel chip adhesion.
