BEYOND Arc Chamfer Cutters (R1-R8 · Steel + Aluminum)
BEYOND brand solid-carbide arc chamfer cutters with convex corner radius R1 through R8mm. Each radius ships in two grades: a steel-grade with TiAlN coating for steel / stainless / alloy steel, and an aluminum-grade with mirror-polished uncoated flutes for aluminum / copper / brass. Arc profile geometry gives smoother cuts and lower vibration than square-end chamfer mills.

What Is an Arc Chamfer Cutter?
An arc chamfer cutter (also called a corner-rounding end mill) has a convex hemispherical tip with a defined radius R. As it traverses an edge, the cutter produces a smooth rounded profile of matching radius, replacing sharp 90° corners with a stress-relieving arc. Compared to a square-end chamfer mill (which leaves a flat-bottomed notch), the arc profile:
- Reduces stress concentration at the corner — critical for parts subject to fatigue loading or impact.
- Eliminates chipping on brittle materials (hardened tool steel, cast iron, ceramic-coated parts).
- Improves surface finish on the rounded transition — no sharp tooling marks.
- Lowers vibration / chatter — the spherical cutting edge has continuous tooth engagement.
The body diameter D of the cutter equals 2 × R (e.g. R4 cutter has D = 8mm body), which is the standard for corner-rounding geometry. This means a single R4 cutter can profile a corner that a square end mill cannot reach without multiple step-down passes.
Why Choose Our Arc Chamfer Cutters
Steel-Grade vs Aluminum-Grade Comparison
Same radius, two different cutter designs. Choosing the right grade for your workpiece material is the difference between a clean chamfer and a BUE disaster. Quick comparison:
| Design Element | Steel-Grade (R1-R8) | Aluminum-Grade (R1-R8) |
|---|---|---|
| Coating | TiAlN | None (uncoated polished) |
| Flute surface | Standard ground | Mirror-polished |
| Helix angle | 30-45° | 55° (steep) |
| Vc range | 60-150 m/min | 150-300 m/min |
| fz per tooth | 0.02-0.06 mm | 0.04-0.10 mm |
| Coolant | Flood (mandatory for stainless) | MQL or flood |
| Workpiece | Steel, stainless, alloy steel, cast iron | Aluminum, copper, brass, non-ferrous |
| Price range | $94 - $566 (R1 to R8) | $78 - $428 (R1 to R8) |

Recommended Cutting Parameters
Starting parameters for arc chamfer cutters. Adjust Vc down 20% for stainless steel or interrupted cuts. Use coolant (flood or MQL) for any cut deeper than the corner radius.

Arc Chamfer vs Square End Mill vs Ball End Mill
Each cutter is engineered for a different geometry. Choosing the wrong one wastes passes or produces the wrong profile. Here's when to reach for which:
| Operation | Reach For | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Rounded corner with defined radius R | Arc chamfer cutter (this collection) | Convex tip produces the exact radius in one pass. |
| Sharp 90° corner on outside edge | Square end mill | Flat bottom leaves a square corner — no rounded profile. |
| Concave 3D surface (mould cavity) | Ball end mill | Spherical tip matches concave geometry in tool paths. |
| Convex 3D surface (mould core) | Ball end mill | Spherical tip generates convex 3D geometry. |
| Sharp chamfer (flat-bottomed 45° / 60°) | Chamfer mill | Angled flat tip produces consistent chamfer width. |
| Heavy stock removal in fillet | Square end mill + arc finish pass | Faster MRR for rough opening before finish. |
