How to Choose the Right Carbide Drill Bit
For Steel & Stainless Steel (HRC60)
Use the 3D or 5D internal-coolant series. Pair with CNMG / WCMX turning inserts for the matching turning operation.
For Aluminum, Copper & Alloy (HRC55)
Use the dedicated Micro Diameter Solid Carbide Drill Bit for Aluminum series (0.15–3.0 mm). HRC55 substrate with nano-coating prevents built-up edge.
For PCB & Electronics (HRC55)
Use the PCB Tungsten Carbide Micro Drill Bits series (0.15–3.175 mm). Fixed straight shank, no center-coolant — preserves circuit integrity.
For Hardened Steel (HRC65)
Use the 8D Internal Coolant Solid Carbide Drill series. KCPK15 + TiAlN coating tolerates dry / MQL at high Vc. Mind the 20–40 bar coolant pressure.
Cutting Parameter Quick Guide
Starting recommendations — always validate with your machine's rigidity and fixture setup. For deep-hole Vc reduction and peck-cycle parameters, see the 12D Saber Tooth deep-hole series.

Carbide (Solid) vs Indexable Insert Drills
Solid carbide drills win on rigidity, surface finish, and small-diameter precision (≤ 20 mm). When hole diameter exceeds 20 mm or you need indexable economics, switch to the indexable insert drill family below. All eight siblings share the same /collections/drill parent hub.
SP Insert Drills — 55° positive trigon, for stainless / aluminum / mild steel
WC Insert Drills — 80° trigon negative rake, for steel / cast iron / high MRR
For the matching turning insert family, see Pillar — Carbide Inserts by Operation or by Material.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between HRC55, HRC60, and HRC65 carbide drills?
HRC55 is ultra-fine grain for aluminum / copper / PCB (sharp edge retention, low built-up edge). HRC60 is the workhorse for structural steel / stainless / cast iron (3D / 5D series). HRC65 is the heavy-duty grade for hardened steel / die steel up to 8D depth — uses KCPK15 coating and tolerates higher Vc.
When should I pick solid carbide over indexable insert drills?
Solid carbide (this collection) for Ø ≤ 20 mm, tight tolerance IT7–IT8, thin walls, and small-diameter PCB work. Switch to indexable insert drills when Ø > 20 mm, hole depth > 5ר on cast iron, or when you need insert-only inventory economics.
Why does BEYOND use D-Type shanks instead of straight shanks?
D-Type shanks conform to DIN 69090-3, providing a sealed coolant channel that maintains 7–40 bar pressure through the drill body. This is required for 5D / 8D deep-hole drilling in steel. The ER collet chuck family pairs with these shanks on standard CNC spindles.
Can I run BEYOND carbide drills dry or with MQL?
Yes — KCPK15 TiAlN-based coating tolerates dry / MQL on HRC60 and HRC65 series. Reduce Vc by 20–30% vs flood coolant. For stainless steel and aluminum, flood coolant is still preferred for chip evacuation.
What is the smallest diameter available?
Ø 0.15 mm — see the PCB Micro Drill Bits 0.15–0.95 mm product for circuit-board micro-via work. For Ø < 0.5 mm, dedicated PCB series are recommended over general HRC60 carbide.
Do BEYOND drills work on non-BEYOND tool holders?
Yes — all D-Type shanks conform to DIN 69090-3 (Machining Industries), compatible with ER collet chucks, hydraulic chucks, and shrink-fit holders from any ISO 15488 / DIN 6499 holder system. For matching holders and chucks, see ER collet chucks.
