Mitsubishi WB / WP / WC 80° Trigon Inserts — WBGT, WCGT, WCMT Small-Diameter Swiss-Type Profiling
17 in-stock 80° trigon Mitsubishi indexable carbide turning inserts covering 3 geometry families (WBGT / WCGT / WCMT) and 7 grade families (VP15TF / NX2525 / US735 / UE6110 / UTI20T / HTI10 / AP25N). IC sizes 2.0 to 6.0 mm — designed for Swiss-type lathes, watch parts, medical screws, and small-diameter profiling. 2-3 day dispatch from Zhejiang warehouse, DHL/UPS worldwide 3-7 days, all ISO 1832 compliant.
About 80° Trigon Inserts (W-Style)
The ISO 1832 W-shape family delivers an 80° trigon (triangular with 80° apex angle) — a less common geometry optimized for very small-diameter profiling. Mitsubishi's 80° trigon lineup covers three clearance variants:
- WB (5° positive rake) — Sharp edge, low cutting force. Used for finish profiling on small-diameter parts (under 6 mm).
- WP (11° positive rake) — Sharper than WB, used for ultra-precision profiling on Swiss-type lathes. (Not currently stocked; request quote.)
- WC (7° negative rake) — Slightly stronger edge. Used when profiling meets light interruptions or for general small-diameter turning.
The W-shape trigon is the geometry of choice for parts with IC under 6 mm — the same triangular shape as T-style 60° but with a wider 80° angle that distributes cutting forces more evenly on tiny inserts, reducing chipping. Typical applications include Swiss-type lathe watch parts (pinion shafts, balance staffs), medical bone screws (Ø 1.5-3.0 mm), electronic connector pins, and instrument components.

Bottom line: The 80° W-shape trigon is the go-to geometry for Swiss-type lathes — it can be ground to very small IC (down to 2.0 mm) where 60° T-style and 80° C-style cannot. For IC ≥ 6 mm, the T-style 60° triangle is stronger and more economical. For profiling larger diameters (≥ 10 mm) on a standard lathe, switch to D-style 55° or C-style 80°.
How to Choose the Right 80° Trigon Insert — 3-Step
Step 1 — Identify the Operation
- Swiss-type profiling (Ø < 6 mm): WCMT 06/04/02 series. Standard workhorse geometry for Citizen, Star, Tsugami Swiss lathes.
- Mirror surface finishing on small parts: WBGT or WCGT with NX2525 cermet. Ground periphery + cermet = mirror finish.
- Aluminum connector pins: WCGT with HTI10 (uncoated sharp edge).
- Stainless watch parts: WCMT with US735 (M-grade) or WBGT with VP15TF (PVD universal).
Step 2 — Match the Grade to Workpiece
- Stainless steel 304/316 (watch, medical): US735 (CVD stainless) or VP15TF (PVD universal). US735 for heavier profiling, VP15TF for finish.
- Alloy steel / tool steel: UE6110 (CVD steel P20-P30).
- Cast iron: UTI20T (uncoated, K-grade).
- Aluminum / non-ferrous: HTI10 (uncoated sharp edge).
- Mirror finishing (cermet): NX2525 or AP25N (P05-P15 cermet grades).
Step 3 — Verify Holder Compatibility
- WB / WP (positive 5° / 11°): Use SWUB / SWUP Swiss tool holders (positive rake pockets).
- WC (negative 7°): Use MWUN negative Swiss tool holders (negative rake pockets).
- Verify IC fit: WCMT 02 series needs 2.0 mm pocket; WCMT 04 needs 4.0 mm; WCMT 06 needs 6.0 mm. Some Swiss lathes only accept specific IC sizes — check your tool block.
