Description

The Original Korloy FGD500R-04 PC215K is a specialized Single-Ended Parting and Grooving Insert designed specifically for the heavy-duty machining of Cast Iron (K). The 5.0mm cutting width provides extreme structural integrity for deep-plunge grooving in large industrial components. Utilizing the PC215K PVD grade, this insert features a high-hardness substrate and a heat-resistant coating that excels in the abrasive environment of Grey Cast Iron (GG) and Ductile Iron (GGG). Its single-ended design ensures the maximum clamping surface, effectively eliminating vibration and ensuring flat, precise groove bottoms.

The Cast Iron Powerhouse: Machining cast iron often leads to abrasive wear and micro-chipping. The PC215K grade is engineered to resist these specific wear patterns, providing much longer tool life and better dimensional stability in mass production than multi-material grades.

Technical Specifications:

Brand Korloy (100% Genuine)
ISO Code FGD500R-04
Insert Design Single-Ended (Heavy Load)
Width (w) 5.0 mm
Grade PC215K (Specialized for Cast Iron)

Core Performance Benefits:

  • Maximum Rigid Seating: The single-ended long-body design is critical for the high cutting forces generated by 5mm wide cuts in tough ductile iron.
  • Abrasive Wear Resistance: PC215K coating is designed to handle the silica and graphite inclusions found in cast irons without dulling prematurely.
  • Exceptional Edge Strength: The R0.4 radius and FGD geometry prevent edge chipping during interrupted cuts on rough castings.
  • Optimized Chip Control: FGD chipbreaker specifically manages the short, brittle chips of cast iron to keep the work area clean.

Recommended Cutting Parameters:

Material Group Cutting Speed (Vc) Feed Rate (f)
Grey Cast Iron (GG25) 120 - 220 m/min 0.12 - 0.28 mm/rev
Ductile Iron (GGG40/50) 100 - 180 m/min 0.10 - 0.22 mm/rev
High Strength Cast Iron 80 - 150 m/min 0.08 - 0.18 mm/rev

Compatible Tool Holders:

For 5mm wide heavy cutting, use high-rigidity 25mm or 32mm holders:

Cast Iron Expert Tip: PC215K vs. PC9030

Choosing the right grade for your 5.0mm groove makes the difference between consistent production and frequent tool changes:

PC215K (This Model)

The Specialist. Higher hardness than PC9030. It is much more resistant to the abrasive particles in cast iron. Use this for GG/GGG to achieve maximum tool life.

PC9030

The All-Rounder. Best for Stainless Steel. While it can cut iron, it will wear out much faster due to lower surface hardness compared to the PC215K.

Machinist's Pro Tip: Cast iron often has a hard, abrasive outer "skin." When starting the groove with an FGD500R, ensure the first pass is deep enough to get the tool tip below the casting crust immediately to protect the cutting edge.

Packaging: 10 pieces per box.
