Machinist Tip: Why PC3500 for Drilling?
Understanding the difference between CVD and PVD for SPMT inserts:
CVD Grade. Best for high Vc (Surface Speed). It excels in dry or high-heat steel drilling. Its thick coating provides the highest resistance to thermal wear on the outer edge of the drill.
PVD Grade. Better for tougher, gummy materials like stainless steel or when cutting speeds are lower. It is more resistant to chipping but less resistant to crater wear than PC3500.
Pro Advice: For maximum drill life in steel, use PC3500 as your outer insert and PC5300 (if available) as your inner insert. This setup balances the speed-wear on the outside with the impact-wear on the inside.
