The Original Korloy VBMT110304-HMP NC3120 (ANSI Cross Reference: VBMT 221-HMP) represents the next generation of 35° Rhombic Positive Inserts for Steel Machining. Building on the success of the NC3020, the NC3120 Grade features enhanced coating adhesion and improved substrate toughness. Coupled with the HMP (Harmony Medium-Positive) chipbreaker, it provides a stable, high-performance solution for semi-finishing carbon steels, alloy steels, and tool steels.
The Next Generation Standard: NC3120 is designed to be more versatile than its predecessor. It offers increased resistance to "chipping" in light interrupted cuts while maintaining the high wear resistance needed for high-speed continuous turning.

Why Upgrade to NC3120?
Machinist's perspective on the new Korloy standard:
NC3120 is designed to reduce the need for multiple grades. It's tough enough for light interruptions but hard enough for high SFM finishing. If you want one "standard" steel insert in your drawer, this is it.
The new CVD layer provides superior thermal protection. This is critical for VBMT inserts as their small 35° geometry tends to concentrate heat more than CCGT or CNMG inserts.
