CNMG120404-MA US735
Stainless Steel Specialist | US735 PVD Grade | MA Chipbreaker
Engineered for Tougher Alloys
US735 Grade (The Toughness Champion): US735 is a specialized PVD-coated carbide grade designed for **Stainless Steel (M-Class)** and **Heat Resistant Alloys (S-Class)**. Unlike CVD grades that can be brittle, the PVD coating on US735 is thinner and more elastic, providing extreme resistance to chipping and thermal cracking during interrupted cuts or when machining materials that work-harden quickly.
MA Chipbreaker (Medium-Cut Precision): The **MA chipbreaker** is Mitsubishi's most versatile geometry for medium turning. It features a unique ridge design that ensures stable chip breaking across a wide range of feed rates, specifically preventing long, dangerous "string" chips common in 304 and 316 stainless steel.
0.4mm (1/64") Precision Radius: The 04 radius reduces radial cutting forces, making it ideal for finishing passes, small-diameter workpieces, and thin-walled parts where vibration (chatter) must be eliminated.
Metric vs. Imperial Comparison
| System | Model Designation | I.C. (Inscribed Circle) | Thickness | Radius (RE) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Metric | CNMG120404-MA | 12.7 mm | 4.76 mm | 0.40 mm |
| Imperial | CNMG431-MA | 1/2" | 3/16" | 0.0157" (1/64") |
Recommended Cutting Parameters
*Stainless steel requires consistent feed to avoid work-hardening. Flood coolant is highly recommended.
| Material Group | Speed (Vc) | Feed (fn) | Depth (Ap) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Austenitic Stainless (304/316) | 80 - 180 m/min | 0.10 - 0.25 mm/r | 0.30 - 2.50 mm |
| Heat Resistant Alloys (Inconel) | 30 - 60 m/min | 0.08 - 0.20 mm/r | 0.20 - 1.50 mm |

US735 (High Toughness): Best for heavy interruptions, low-speed machining, and materials with high work-hardening tendencies. Use this if your inserts are currently chipping.
VP15TF (General Purpose): Use this for higher-speed continuous turning in a wider variety of materials. It is harder than US735 but less resistant to impact.
