Machinist Tip: Efficiency vs Precision
When to choose the 0.8mm radius (TNMG160408):
The Workhorse. Choose this for the majority of your stainless work. It allows for higher feeds and is much more forgiving if the part has an uneven surface or if you are doing interrupted cutting.
The Detailer. Switch to the 0.4mm radius only for final finishing passes where you need to minimize cutting pressure on slender parts or achieve a very tight corner profile.
Pro Advice: For the best chip breaking with the GS geometry, ensure your feed rate (fn) is at least 0.15 mm/rev. At lower feeds, stainless steel tends to string out, regardless of the chipbreaker.
