Machinist Tip: Why R0.8 over R0.4?
If you are experiencing premature tip wear or the 35° point is breaking during profiling, the R0.8 (VNMG 332) provides the extra strength needed to handle the pressure of alloy steel turning.
The 0.8mm radius can produce a very good finish if you match the feed. Try a feed rate around 0.15-0.20 mm/rev for a clean surface that stays within tolerance.
