CNMG120408 NX2525
High-Speed Finishing Specialist | NX2525 Cermet Grade | Surface Ra Perfection
The Cermet Advantage: Grade NX2525
NX2525 Cermet Grade: Mitsubishi’s NX2525 is a Titanium Carbonitride (TiCN) based cermet. Unlike tungsten carbide, cermet has a very low affinity for iron-based metals. This means the workpiece material doesn't stick to the edge, resulting in zero built-up edge (BUE) and a significantly brighter surface finish. It is the premier choice for finishing steel and stainless steel where Ra requirements are strict.
CNMG Geometry & Chip Control: This insert features a precision-molded chipbreaker designed for medium-to-finish turning. It provides excellent chip breaking even at lower depths of cut, preventing the "birds-nesting" of chips that can scratch a finished surface.
0.8mm (1/32") Universal Radius: The 08 radius is the "Golden Middle." It offers more edge security than a 0.4mm radius while still allowing for high surface speeds. This radius is ideal for high-productivity finishing cycles.
Metric vs. Imperial Comparison
| System | Model Designation | I.C. (Inscribed Circle) | Thickness | Radius (RE) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Metric | CNMG120408 | 12.7 mm | 4.76 mm | 0.80 mm |
| Imperial | CNMG432 | 1/2" | 3/16" | 0.0315" (1/32") |
Recommended Finishing Parameters
*Cermets require high speed (Vc) to perform correctly. For best surface quality, cut dry or with consistent flood coolant.
| Workpiece Material | Speed (Vc) | Feed (fn) | Depth (Ap) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low Carbon Steel (1018/1020) | 200 - 450 m/min | 0.10 - 0.25 mm/r | 0.30 - 2.00 mm |
| Alloy Steel (4140/8620) | 150 - 350 m/min | 0.10 - 0.20 mm/r | 0.30 - 1.50 mm |

NX2525 Cermet: Best for high-speed finishing where surface brightness and dimensional stability are critical. Not suitable for interrupted cuts or heavy roughing.
VP15TF Carbide: Best for general-purpose turning, interrupted cuts, or roughing. Carbide is tougher but cannot match the cermet surface finish at high speeds.

Technical FAQ & Buying Guide
Absolutely. Our CNC carbide inserts (including CNMG, WNMG, DNMG, and APMT series) are manufactured strictly adhering to international ISO/ANSI specifications. A CNMG 120408 from OYYU BEYOND will flawlessly fit any standard turning tool holder or indexable tool from major global brands like Sandvik Coromant, Kennametal, Iscar, Walter, or SECO, providing a highly cost-effective premium alternative without sacrificing tolerance or tool life.
We offer optimized CVD and PVD multi-layer coatings for different ISO material groups:
- For Carbon/Alloy Steel (ISO P): Choose our thick multi-layer CVD coated grades (e.g., Al2O3 + TiN). They provide exceptional crater wear resistance and thermal barriers during high-speed dry or wet roughing.
- For Stainless Steel (ISO M): Choose our nano-structured PVD coated grades with sharp, positive chipbreakers (like -TM or -MA). This combination prevents work hardening and effectively controls sticky chips.
The optimal cutting parameters vary depending on the workpiece hardness and operation type:
- For General Steel Turnings: Recommended cutting speed ($V_c$) ranges from 150 to 280 m/min, with a feed rate ($f$) of 0.15 to 0.45 mm/rev.
- For Stainless Steel Finishing: Recommended cutting speed ($V_c$) is 120 to 200 m/min, with a feed rate ($f$) of 0.10 to 0.25 mm/rev.Always adjust parameters based on early wear patterns: increase $V_c$ if built-up edge occurs, or reduce $V_c$ if severe flank wear is observed.
